Olga Wagemans’ work explores identity and the relationship between the individual and the collective. She is interested in the ways we see, define and understand one another, and in what remains when the familiar markers of identity begin to disappear.

Thermal imaging forms the starting point of her practice. By registering heat rather than visible light, the camera reveals what normally remains invisible. At the same time, outward characteristics such as age, gender and skin colour begin to fade, disrupting the visual cues through which we instinctively recognize and categorize one another.

Through photography, installation and ceramic objects, Olga investigates what happens when these distinctions become less apparent. Her work does not seek to define what lies beneath them, but creates space for a more open question: what remains when the visible markers that separate us begin to disappear?
